The Prince of Wales Hospital, louisa hope fund for nurses

Louisa was initially taken to Randwick’s Prince of Wales hospital after the siege and spent almost three months in hospital including time in rehabilitation. Recovering from shrapnel wounds to the foot and abdomen, she was overwhelmed by the compassion and generosity the staff showed her during a period that was mentally and physically challenging. Her close relationship with the nurses inspired her to begin the Louisa Hope Fund for Nurses at the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation with the money given to her by Channel 9 which was matched by the then Premier, Mike Baird.

Louisa reflects on her involvement with the nurses at Prince of Wales, since the siege, and calls it her “happy place”. The Louisa Hope Fund for nurses supported grants for research, education and equipment for nurses and their patients.

The Nepean Hospital

After hearing about her work with the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation, a local politician near Nepean Hospital reached out to Louisa for a coffee. As her mother Robin lives in the area,Louisa already had a deep appreciation for the work of the doctors and nurses at Nepean Hospital. She is now happily engaged with fundraising to support the nurses in the Nepean district, with the Louisa Hope Fund for Nurses at the Nepean Hospital Foundation having only recently being launched.
